One Palette, One Plan: Make Your Next Eye Look Easier
OCEAN BEAUTY / THE BEAUTY EDITION
Opening an eyeshadow palette can bring plenty of ideas at once. For your next look, try choosing a direction before choosing your shades. Think about where you are going, what you are wearing, and how much time you want to spend getting ready.
A little planning leaves more room to enjoy the makeup itself. Here is an easy way to build a look around one palette.
Choose the overall shape
Start with a question: do you want color across the lid, a softly defined outer corner, or a small accent? Pick one feature to guide the look. You can always add more later, but a clear starting point makes the first few decisions simpler.
If you are trying something unfamiliar, sketch the idea on paper or save a reference photo. Notice where the color sits rather than trying to copy every detail.
Give your shades a job
Look through your palette and choose one shade as the main color. If you want more definition, select a second shade that looks deeper alongside it. A third shade is optional: use it only when you have a particular detail in mind.
This approach works with the colors you already enjoy. You do not need to use every shade, and a one-shade look is a complete look too.
Pause before adding more
Apply your chosen eye products according to their directions. Then step back from the mirror and look at both eyes together. Check the shape with your eyes open, as that is how you will usually see the finished result.
Make one adjustment at a time. You might decide to soften an edge, add a little definition, or leave everything exactly as it is.
Keep a note of your favorite combination
Take a quick photo and note the shades you chose. The next time you are getting ready, you will have a familiar starting point.
