Troubleshoot Uneven Lip Edges with a Better View

OCEAN BEAUTY / THE BEAUTY EDITION

When a lip edge looks uneven, adding more product everywhere can make the original problem harder to see. Pause and identify the exact section that needs attention. Often, a better view and a smaller movement are more useful than restarting the whole look.

Check your mirror position

Use a stable mirror at a comfortable height, with light that lets you see both sides of your mouth clearly. Avoid holding the mirror at an angle that changes every time you move your hand. Relax your mouth, look straight ahead, and check whether the unevenness is still visible.

Break a long line into shorter sections

If a continuous stroke keeps wandering, try a few short, controlled strokes instead, following the product's directions. Pause between them to look at the overall shape. Keep your hand position comfortable and work only on the section you identified, rather than repeatedly tracing the entire edge.

Check the product you are using

Balmy includes a lipstick and matching liner. If you use a liner for an edge detail, follow its packaging instructions, including any guidance about preparing the tip. Do not improvise sharpening or maintenance methods when the product's design is unclear.

Correct one thing at a time

Decide whether the issue is a gap, an unintended mark, or a section that looks heavier than you wanted. For an unwanted mark, use an appropriate removal method according to the remover's directions, then reassess before adding anything back. Check at an ordinary mirror distance as well as close up.

Set a stopping point: the edge should look intentional to you at a normal viewing distance. Natural differences between the two sides of your mouth do not require endless correction. When the shape feels right, put the tools down. Precision is helped by seeing clearly, making deliberate changes, and knowing when a small adjustment is enough.
